Nigerian Army dismisses private for spreading false claims about troops’ rations
The Nigerian Army has dismissed Private Umar Jamiu after finding that his social media posts alleging poor feeding of soldiers in the North East were false. The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI confirmed that disciplinary measures were taken under the Armed Forces Act to uphold military discipline and integrity. The command explained that all troops receive rations according to approved feeding scales and that food committees, led by senior non-commissioned officers, oversee menu planning and distribution. An investigation showed the image circulated by the private depicted only a partial meal and did not reflect the full ration provided. The Army urged personnel to use internal channels for grievances and asked the public to rely on officially verified information. It warned against misinformation that could undermine operations and reiterated its commitment to troop welfare and the broader security mandate in the North East.
