Supreme Court Orders PDP to Release Nomination Forms to Sule Lamido
The Supreme Court delivered judgment in Appeal No. SC/CV/164/2026. The case arose from a dispute over the PDP’s 2025 National Convention and the denial of nomination forms to Sule Lamido. The Court held that the party is bound by its own constitution. It ruled that Lamido, a registered member in good standing, had the right to seek nomination. Denying him forms after the process began violated internal rules and fair participation. The Supreme Court also found the Federal High Court had jurisdiction because the dispute involved legal rights under the party constitution and the Electoral Act. It criticised the practice of obtaining conflicting orders from courts of coordinate jurisdiction. Finally, the Court dismissed both the appeal and the cross appeal. It upheld orders compelling the PDP to make nomination forms available and restrained the convention until the party complied with lawful procedures.
