South East Council Renames Igbo Diaspora Leaders “NdiNdu Ndigbo na Uzo Ije”
The South East Council of Traditional Rulers has replaced the title “Eze Ndigbo in Diaspora” with “NdiNdu Ndigbo na Uzo Ije” at a ceremony held in Owerri. This move aims to safeguard traditional authority and end long-running disputes over kingship titles abroad. At Eze Imo Palace, HRM Eze Dr Emmanuel C. Okeke inducted 32 Igbo leaders from around the world. They received certificates as official custodians of Igbo culture, and the chairman called the event a historic milestone for the Igbo nation. Traditional rulers from the five South-East states and diaspora representatives, including the Onye Ndu Uzo Ije in Ghana, welcomed the new title. The council also announced plans to launch a Lagos State chapter under Chief John-Greg Okey Ezebuadi’s leadership.
