CAN Declares June 14 as Black Sunday, Calls for Emergency Security Measures

CAN Declares June 14 as Black Sunday, Calls for Emergency Security Measures

The Christian Association of Nigeria has declared Sunday, June 14, 2026, as a Black Sunday to mourn victims of recent terrorist attacks nationwide. A national prayer period will run from June 12 to June 14 to seek divine intervention amid rising insecurity. Addressing delegates at its National Church Denominational Leadership Summit, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh said that prayer alone is no longer sufficient. He urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity, accelerate state policing reforms, and decentralise security structures for faster, more effective responses. Okoh also demanded the unconditional release of all kidnapped victims and insisted that justice be served in every case of abduction and terrorist violence.
