Government Receives 497 Nigerian Migrants Evacuated from Niger
Nearly 500 Nigerians stranded in Agadez, Niger Republic, arrived at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on May 22 under a coordinated humanitarian effort. Officials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons led the reception alongside NAPTIP, NEMA, NSCDC, NDLEA, DSS, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society. The returnees were registered and profiled before being taken to the state Immigration Training School for further support. The evacuation was carried out in partnership with the International Organization for Migration under its Voluntary Humanitarian Return Programme. A total of 497 returnees—174 adult males, 97 adult females, 137 boys, and 89 girls—were brought home in the first batch of what is expected to be two flights coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies.
