How Four Siblings Turned Their Parents’ Legacy into a Youth Empowerment Foundation

How Four Siblings Turned Their Parents’ Legacy into a Youth Empowerment Foundation — 1 of 4
1 / 4

What started as a heartfelt tribute by Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan and his three siblings has become a leading family-driven impact initiative in Lagos. Over four years, the AKEM Foundation has moved from supporting four groups to running scholarships, grants, and mentorship programmes across education and enterprise. At its 4th anniversary in Lagos on 9 May, the foundation awarded five young entrepreneurs grants totaling over ₦6 million. Winners secured funding ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1.5 million, with additional support from dignitaries and community partners. AKEM Foundation remains committed to turning family values into structured social empowerment. By making every grant an open competition, it equips aspiring Nigerians to build sustainable ventures and become catalysts of change.
