‘The Brazil We Knew Is Gone’ – Sunday Oliseh Eviscerates Selecao After Norway Upset

‘The Brazil We Knew Is Gone’ – Sunday Oliseh Eviscerates Selecao After Norway Upset

Sunday Oliseh, former Super Eagles coach, delivered a harsh verdict on Brazil’s national team after their stunning quarterfinal exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He said the Selecao have lost the fear factor and flair that once defined them. Brazil fell 2-1 to Norway at the New York New Jersey Stadium thanks to two Erling Haaland strikes. Bruno Guimaraes missed an early penalty, and Gabriel Martinelli and Vinicius Junior were repeatedly denied by an inspired performance from Norwegian keeper Ørjan Nyland. Norway seized control in the second half. Haaland headed in the opener in the 79th minute and sealed the historic win with a thunderbolt outside the box at the 90th minute. The result sends shockwaves through the tournament as Norway reach their first World Cup semifinal. Oliseh then took to social media to criticise Brazil’s tactical indiscipline and lacklustre attitude. “The Brazil we used to know is completely gone,” he wrote, praising Norway’s discipline and clinical finishing.

Sunday Oliseh's critique feels overly harsh when you consider the strength and organization Norway displayed throughout the match.

Brazil must focus on regaining defensive solidity and tactical discipline if they hope to rebuild confidence before the next World Cup.
