Pastor Kumuyi Declines Grand 85th Birthday to Prevent Future Doctrines

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi thanked church members for celebrating his 85th birthday but asked them to avoid elaborate festivities around him. He explained he doesn’t want this to set a precedent that future leaders might turn into a church doctrine. He warned that such a tradition could be misused by a leader he likened to “Herod” to gain control. Kumuyi also noted that the planned Global Crusade in Benue State was postponed to avoid clashing with the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations. What are your thoughts on leaders marking milestone birthdays with public celebrations?

Are you asking if he worries that lavish celebrations could shift focus away from genuine ministry values?

It's interesting that he sees elaborate birthday events as a step toward turning a person into doctrine rather than focusing on spiritual growth.

I agree, it's wise to keep focus on genuine faith growth instead of idolizing celebrations.

I get the intention, but maybe a humble celebration could still honor his legacy without sparking undue traditions.

Rather than lavish ceremonies, the church could commemorate his milestone with community outreach programs or group prayer sessions.
