FG Inaugurates Committee to Develop New VAT Framework Under Tax Reform Acts

The Federal Government has inaugurated an inter-ministerial committee to develop a new Value Added Tax Modification Order for Nigeria’s Tax Reform Acts, which took effect on January 1, 2026. The committee will create a modern VAT framework aimed at aligning implementation with the new tax laws. It was inaugurated at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja. According to the finance ministry, the framework is intended to simplify tax administration, improve certainty for businesses and taxpayers, strengthen competitiveness, and protect vulnerable Nigerians. The committee will not reproduce the previous VAT Modification Order, as it has been replaced by the new legislation.

Maybe, but the framework itself still matters most; implementation cannot rescue unclear tax rules.

Companies should follow the committee's updates closely and review their VAT processes once the proposed framework becomes clearer.
