NBC Prepares Technicians for Free-to-Air Digital TV Rollout
The National Broadcasting Commission has launched a training programme for more than 50 set-top box installers and technicians in Ibadan. They will support Nigeria’s full transition from analogue to digital television by 2028. In partnership with Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, the trainees will learn to align and track signals for a new free-to-air platform. With a decoder and satellite dish tuned to the NigComSat signal, households can enjoy multiple channels without subscription fees. Participants praised the initiative for providing valuable skills and creating job opportunities. Trainees said the service will especially benefit low-income families by giving them access to numerous channels at no monthly cost. The NBC says this nationwide training drive will ensure a smooth digital switchover and expand quality television services across Nigeria.
