Becoming a professor in Nigeria almost always requires a PhD, yet four remarkable scholars broke the norm. Wole Soyinka earned his BA in English at Ibadan and Leeds but never pursued a doctorate. His work as a playwright and poet brought him multiple honorary degrees and the Nobel Prize in Literature. Chinua Achebe also held only a bachelor’s degree from Ibadan.
