Report: 88% of Nigerians Use AI Tools as Adoption Goes Mainstream
A new evidence-based analysis shows Nigeria emerging as a global leader in AI adoption, driven by practical utility rather than novelty. The study examines how AI is reshaping education, work, business growth and social inclusion across the country. It finds that 88% of Nigerian respondents used at least one AI tool in the past year, while 84% tapped generative platforms like ChatGPT or Gemini. Most users rely on AI to simplify complex topics (93%), support work tasks (91%) and explore new career paths (80%). Corporate adoption is also climbing, with 74% of firms in hubs such as Lagos, Rivers and Abuja integrating AI into their operations. Despite an estimated 107 million internet users, uneven connectivity, affordability and device ownership still limit access. Experts warn that bridging the digital divide and investing in infrastructure, digital literacy and coordinated public-private efforts are essential to ensure AI benefits reach all Nigerians.
