Rivers Police Bust Tricycle Theft Ring, Arrest Three Suspects

Rivers Police Bust Tricycle Theft Ring, Arrest Three Suspects

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a tricycle theft syndicate. They are accused of targeting operators across Elelenwo, Igwuruta, Tank and Woji in Port Harcourt. On March 18, tricycle operator Sadiq Gara reported being held at gunpoint and robbed of his vehicle. Officers swiftly recovered the tricycle and arrested Abdullahi Mohammed (23) and Yusuf Umaru (25) at a hideout in Army Range, Igwuruta. A third suspect, Mohammed Usman (28), alleged to be the receiver of stolen tricycles, was also detained. Recovered items include one locally made pistol, two live cartridges and two stolen tricycles. Another victim, Rosemary James, identified one suspect in a prior robbery. Investigators say the gang has delivered over 20 stolen tricycles to a receiver who moved them to Kano, Bauchi and Adamawa states. Police say investigations are ongoing as they intensify efforts to apprehend other gang members and recover more stolen vehicles.

Are unions really the ones to step in? Maybe enforcement and better security will help more than union programmes.

It's surprising thieves could operate across multiple communities without being noticed earlier, given police patrol patterns.

Arresting a few suspects won't end the problem; organised rings just adapt to evade law enforcement.
