Nigerian Navy Busts Illegal Oil Refineries in Bonny and Rivers–Bayelsa Border

Nigerian Navy Busts Illegal Oil Refineries in Bonny and Rivers–Bayelsa Border

The Nigerian Navy has foiled plans to build illegal oil refining sites in the Niger Delta. Officers acting on credible intelligence stopped saboteurs in the Promise Land area of Bonny LGA. Aerial surveillance and creek patrols uncovered concealed equipment and improvised pipe networks hidden under thick vegetation. Teams dismantled two makeshift refineries before they became operational. In a related operation along the Rivers–Bayelsa border, Navy personnel discovered 3,800 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel hidden in 38 sacks. No arrests were made as the suspects fled the scene. Under Operation Delta Sentinel, the Navy will continue to identify emerging hotspots, dismantle illegal refining infrastructure, and safeguard the maritime environment from economic sabotage.
