Why Nigerian Leaders Won’t Reveal the True Plan for 24/7 Electricity

Peter Obi pledged an extra 10,000MW, promising round-the-clock light if a Siemens project succeeds. Critics say he’s all talk, but he never shared a detailed roadmap. In 2023, Bola Tinubu dared voters: “If I fail to secure constant power, vote me out in 2027.” Yet he, too, offered no concrete strategy. Neither candidate mentions cost-reflective tariffs, metering or curbing theft—the expert-backed blueprint for a stable grid. Industry veterans like Prof. Barth Nnaji argue tariffs must cover operational costs, especially when inputs are dollar-denominated. Nigeria faces the choice: pay fair prices or subsidize expensive generators. Even India’s decades-old tiered pricing model failed to deliver reliable light. Until leaders present unpopular, technical fixes—rather than populist promises—Nigeria will chase free power myths or shoulder crushing debt.

Given Obi's 10,000MW pledge and Tinubu's dare, what detailed roadmap would convince you about 24/7 power delivery?

It's striking that both leading candidates make grand promises but still haven't shared any actionable project timelines or cost breakdowns.

Throwing around megawatt numbers without clear execution plans won't cut it; voters need specifics, not just catchy slogans.

Make una demand regular public updates on Siemens project milestones and actual power outputs before voting for any big promise.
