Henderson Rallies Behind Bellingham, Says Criticism Is ‘Hard to Read’

Henderson Rallies Behind Bellingham, Says Criticism Is ‘Hard to Read’ — 1 of 3
1 / 3

England captain Jordan Henderson has spoken out in defence of Jude Bellingham ahead of the World Cup opener against Croatia. He admits he sometimes finds the negative media coverage “hard to read” given Bellingham’s influence on and off the field. Henderson recalls handing Bellingham his first senior cap six years ago and praises his growth into a key player. He highlights Bellingham’s maturity, tournament experience and “X-factor” role for the Three Lions. Despite the debate over the number 10 position, Henderson insists Bellingham remains a “huge player” for England. Manager Thomas Tuchel, however, has warned that no starting spot is guaranteed.

True, constant media scrutiny can distract the team. Keeping unity and mental strength must now be their top priority.

It seems odd that an experienced captain like Henderson would call criticism hard to read when elite players face scrutiny daily.

By always defending Bellingham, Henderson might overlook valid points in the criticism. Accountability shouldn't be ignored under the guise of support.

Maybe Henderson could set up focused team sessions to review media feedback objectively and turn criticism into performance improvements.
