10 Things I Gave Up for Jesus

10 Things I Gave Up for Jesus

I’ve made radical changes to align my life with holiness. I no longer watch secular films or listen to music that tempts me—no Afrobeat, hip hop, pop, romance films or horror. I avoid pornography, premarital intimacy and all ungodly sexual acts, choosing instead to honour biblical standards. I’ve stepped away from sports, gaming and betting, and even stopped playing video games on my phone and console. I rely on scripture and prayer to fill my time. I also refuse to alter my CV for job favour, trusting God for honest opportunities. I eat only natural, home-prepared foods, avoiding anything that may be tied to idolatrous practices. I’ve declined business ventures that would require serving alcohol or promoting unchristian lifestyles. My friendships are limited to those who share this commitment to holiness. I believe every choice must point me back to Jesus and the great commission to win souls for Him.

Skipping all secular films and popular music seems drastic; I wonder if such a strict boundary is sustainable long-term.

I respect your dedication, but cutting out all secular entertainment might disconnect you from everyday culture and fellowship.

A practical step could be replacing secular media with worship playlists or faith-based podcasts for healthier spiritual growth.
