Mikel Obi Alleges 2013 AFCON Land Grant Still Undelivered

Mikel Obi Alleges 2013 AFCON Land Grant Still Undelivered — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel says he never received the “massive plot of land” promised by the government after Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations victory. Speaking on a podcast with former England international Peter Crouch, Mikel recalled the team’s grand reception but revealed that his land award never materialised. He also criticised long-serving football administrators for holding onto power, mismanaging funds and stalling the sport’s progress. Mikel confirmed he has declined offers to return, insisting he won’t work with officials who lack a genuine commitment to improving Nigerian football.
