The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has launched a probe into a suspected chemical spill on the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. A team from NESREA’s Kaduna State Field Office, led by State Coordinator Mr. Hena Dangari Emmanuel, visited the scene. They met with the local Police and Federal Road Safety Corps commanders and a community leader. Preliminary findings suggest a heavy-duty truck accident caused the spillage. NESREA has collected samples of the foamy substance, nearby soil, and stream water for laboratory analysis. The agency warns the public to avoid contact with the foam, surrounding soil, and water until test results are complete to prevent exposure to potential hazards.

It's hard to trust that NESREA will uncover the real source of this chemical spill without more transparency in their investigation process.

I'm not convinced a brief site visit will address long-term risks; detailed lab tests should be prioritised over quick field walks.

Local residents and frequent commuters should avoid areas with foam and report any health symptoms immediately to nearby medical centers.
