Anioma Icons Series 8: Emma Ogosi and Delta State’s Celebrated Personalities

Anioma Icons Series 8: Emma Ogosi and Delta State’s Celebrated Personalities

Series 8 in our Anioma Icons highlights Emma Ogosi, veteran musician and entertainment pioneer from Asaba. Ogosi launched his solo career in 1981 with Nobody Knows, one of the first Nigerian albums to blend country and disco. He served as the first Secretary-General of PMAN, helping to professionalize the music industry. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, his fusion of highlife, blues and reggae set him apart. Before music, he trained as a cadet officer in the Nigerian Air Force and studied aircraft engineering in Germany. He later moved into television production at NTA, mentoring emerging artists and shaping Nigeria’s entertainment scene. This edition also spotlights other renowned Anioma figures, including Korra Obidi, Ras Kimono, Sunday Oliseh, Regina Daniels and more, each celebrating the rich culture and heritage of Anioma in Delta State.

It's interesting Emma Ogosi led PMAN, but I wonder if his solo album really broke new ground or simply rode existing trends.

Some praise Nobody Knows as pioneering, yet many earlier artists experimented with similar blends before 1981.
