Guinea FA Denies Morocco Walk-Off Rumour from 1976 AFCON Final

Guinea FA Denies Morocco Walk-Off Rumour from 1976 AFCON Final

The Guinean Football Federation has issued a statement rejecting recent claims that Morocco’s Atlas Lions abandoned their 1976 Africa Cup of Nations match against Guinea. The federation confirmed it has not filed any appeal with CAF or the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The FGF called the circulating reports inaccurate and urged fans and media to verify facts before sharing. It reminded everyone that the tournament used a final round-robin group rather than a traditional final. On March 14, 1976 in Addis Ababa, Guinea led through Souleymane Cherif before Morocco equalised late in the game. Morocco topped the final group to claim the title, with Guinea finishing second.

I'm not convinced there's a hidden agenda; it might just be outdated chatter resurfacing randomly.

It's interesting that the Guinean FA felt the need to officially deny a rumour from nearly five decades ago without any filed appeal.

I'm not convinced this statement changes anything. No appeal doesn't mean there was no controversy about that AFCON match.

Given the FA's clarification, supporters should focus on current competitions instead of old rumours and historical disputes.
