Kogi Governor Vows to Fine and Forfeit Trucks Damaging Lokoja Road

Kogi Governor Vows to Fine and Forfeit Trucks Damaging Lokoja Road

Governor Ahmed Ododo inspected the damaged GYB Junction–Zango–Lokoja road and ordered strict action against overloaded trucks. He said the route was built for light vehicles, not heavy mining trucks. He accused miners of diverting their vehicles to evade tax checkpoints and directed the sealing of illegal access points. Ododo warned that any truck found on this restricted road will face heavy fines and possible forfeiture. He also asked the state revenue service to step up enforcement against defaulters. The construction firm has begun remedial works. Barriers and concrete planters will restrict heavy trucks, while the foundation and pavement sections will be strengthened to prevent future damage.

How will the governor ensure those fines actually get enforced before more heavy trucks damage that road?

Which body will oversee the fines and ensure trucks are held accountable quickly?

It seems odd that diversion around checkpoints only started after the road deteriorated so badly under mining traffic.

Fining drivers might just push them onto smaller roads, creating new hazards instead of fixing the main route.
