Fake Police Inspector Arrested in Uyo with Security Uniforms and Fake IDs
Police in Uyo arrested a man posing as an Inspector of Police during a routine stop and search. He was intercepted on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. while riding an unregistered motorcycle along Atiku Abubakar Way. A search at the scene produced a police warrant card bearing the name Inspector Daniel. Officers also found an identity card for the Nigerian Correctional Service, raising suspicion of impersonation. Detectives then executed a warrant at his home in Ikot Ekpene. They seized police berets, rank badges, PMF uniforms, a military camouflage sweater, a lawyer’s wig, desert boots and other security gear. Investigators are tracing the source of these items and probing for accomplices. The police warn against buying or wearing security uniforms, insignia or identity cards without authorization. Citizens should report anyone falsely presenting as security personnel to the nearest station.
