Army Refutes Viral Video Claiming Ex-Boko Haram Fighters Are Armed
The Nigerian Army has dismissed as baseless a viral video suggesting repentant and active Boko Haram members are being armed for combat. Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, coordinator of the Operation Safe Corridor in Abuja, emphasised that the programme is a non-kinetic initiative focusing only on deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration. He clarified that the footage was not filmed at the official facility in Mallam Sidi, Gombe State, which operates under strict military security. At no time are participants armed, deployed or mobilised for any military duties. General Ali highlighted the support of international partners such as the European Union to reinforce the programme’s transparency. He invited the source of the claims and other credible observers to visit the camp for independent verification.
