Domestic Airlines Suspend Strike After Aviation Minister Steps In
Domestic carriers in Nigeria have paused their planned shutdown after Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo intervened over soaring Jet A1 fuel prices. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) warned that costs had surged from ₦900 to ₦3,300 per litre, rendering operations unsustainable. Keyamo urged airlines to hold off on both service suspensions and fare increases, highlighting the risk of job losses, economic disruption, and weakened confidence in the sector. He commended operators for keeping flights running under pressure and noted recent aviation reforms by the current administration. An emergency stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled for April 22 in Abuja. Airlines, regulators, and other parties will seek a prompt, practical, and sustainable resolution to the fuel crisis and its impact on domestic flight operations.
