Omoni Oboli Praises Filmmakers’ Resilience Amid Economic Strain
Actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli took to Instagram to celebrate Nollywood creatives still producing films despite tough economic conditions. She acknowledged the sleepless nights, tight budgets and unseen risks that come with each project. She reminded everyone that every platform counts—cinema, streaming and YouTube alike—and that each contribution matters. Omoni also responded to an online challenge from a fan who claimed he could make better movies than her and other top directors. She expressed her belief in his talent and wished him success. In 2024, after a five-year cinema hiatus, Omoni returned with The Uprising, which grossed over N93 million in its first week. Her earlier film Last Year Single still ranks among the top shows on Netflix in Nigeria.
