Neymar Hits Back at Critics Over Poker Tournament Appearance

Neymar Hits Back at Critics Over Poker Tournament Appearance — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Neymar has responded to criticism over his appearance at a poker tournament while he was still working his way back to full fitness at Santos. The Brazilian forward said the outing took place on a scheduled day off and did not affect his training. He added that he had already completed a morning gym session before the event. Neymar said he missed Santos' match in Venezuela because he had just resumed training, not because of the poker tournament. He is now expected to be available for Santos' next league game against Chapecoense.

This feels like a classic optics problem; even harmless outings can become a big story when a player is short on fitness.

People may be reading too much into it. A day off is a day off, as long as training wasn't missed.

Best move now is simple consistency on the pitch. Good performances usually quiet this kind of noise faster than any explanation.
