NASENI Launches Skills Training for Kano Youth and Women to Boost Industrial Growth

NASENI Launches Skills Training for Kano Youth and Women to Boost Industrial Growth — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has kicked off a Community Empowerment Initiative in Kano State to equip young people and women with practical skills. Participants from Kumbotso and Tarauni LGAs are learning solar installation, welding and fabrication, food processing, and STEM education. The agency’s Executive Vice Chairman emphasised that infrastructure projects must be matched by local talent. He noted that investments in facilities like SETI, the Transformer Manufacturing Plant, and the Coal and Liquid-Based Fertilizer Plant will only drive sustainable growth when supported by a skilled workforce. Through this initiative, NASENI aims to foster entrepreneurship, employability, and self-reliance among Kano communities, aligning with the federal government’s industrialisation agenda and the Nigeria First policy.

This program covers solar installation and welding but actual access to equipment and funding will determine if participants can use these skills effectively.

Providing training is great, but will participants have follow-up support to start businesses, or is this just a one-off workshop with no lasting impact?

Local stakeholders should partner with small businesses to create apprenticeships post-training, ensuring those skills turn into real job placements.
