NNPC Seals Six Gas Agreements to Power Nigeria’s Industrial Drive

NNPC Seals Six Gas Agreements to Power Nigeria’s Industrial Drive

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. finalised six key gas deals at the 25th Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week in Abuja. These pacts include a memorandum and gas sale agreement with Ajaokuta Steel Company, a wet gas sale deal with UTM Floating LNG, and network entry arrangements with Chevron Nigeria Ltd., AGPC and NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd. NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer said the partnerships will deepen gas utilisation, boost domestic supply and strengthen the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code. One agreement secures three million standard cubic feet per day for the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, while another commits 200 million cubic feet daily to the UTM FLNG project ahead of a final investment decision. Witnessed by petroleum resources ministers and regulatory chiefs, these signings are expected to inject up to 800 million cubic feet of gas into the domestic network. The move aims to support power plants, gas-based industries and strategic infrastructure, fast-tracking Nigeria’s gas-based industrialisation drive.

How will these six gas agreements boost local industries beyond steel and LNG at the Oil and Gas Week in Abuja?

Yes, these agreements should deliver steady gas supply for power plants, support petrochemical factories and boost other manufacturing sectors.

Sealing multiple gas deals sounds promising, but I wonder if infrastructure and distribution networks can handle the expected industrial demand soon.

A memorandum with Ajaokuta Steel and wet gas agreement look good, but depending on floating LNG sources might risk local supply consistency.

Companies should map out local pipeline upgrades now to ensure smooth gas supply once these agreements move to implementation stages.
