Opposition Parties Unite Behind 9-Point Ibadan Declaration to Challenge APC

A multi-party summit in Ibadan convened by Governor Seyi Makinde brought together leading opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Muazu Aliyu, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Kabiru Turaki from the PDP and ADC. After extensive discussions on the challenges faced under the APC administration, participants adopted a nine-point agenda known as the Ibadan Declaration. The first seven points demand action on electoral fairness, including resisting one-party state maneuvers, fielding and uniting behind opposition candidates, calling for the removal of the INEC chairman, reviewing the Electoral Act, securing the release of detained politicians, and extending the primaries deadline. The final two points commend Nigerians for their resilience and thank Governor Makinde for hosting the summit. The opposition parties pledge to implement these resolutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Which points in that declaration could actually help reduce unemployment next year?

I'm skeptical this declaration alone will fix unemployment or insecurity without concrete budgets or timelines attached.

Watching so many opposition leaders side by side in Ibadan summit feels historic, yet history shows grand declarations don't always deliver tangible change.

While unity sounds great, are they overlooking grassroots concerns? A top-down summit often misses daily realities of voters in rural areas.

These parties should outline clear monitoring mechanisms for each agenda point and involve local leaders to ensure the Ibadan plan reaches every community.
