Kano Police Bust Arms Syndicate, Seize Three AK-47 Rifles
Police in Kano intercepted an arms-dealing ring after a sting operation by the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad on 9 May. The prime suspect, 35-year-old Umar Danladi Usman of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a, was arrested in Dandinshe Quarters, Dala LGA. Officers recovered three homemade AK-47 rifles, live cartridges, an empty shell, a fake police ID, jack knives and jungle boots. State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said the raid followed reforms by the Inspector-General of Police to tackle violent crime through intelligence-led policing. Investigators traced the fabricated rifles to Dutsin-Ma in Katsina state. The suspect remains in custody as a discreet investigation continues to dismantle the supply network. Bakori praised the professionalism of the Violent Crime Response Unit and urged residents to stay vigilant and share credible information to keep Kano safe.
