Lagos Police Strengthen Security for Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day Celebrations

Lagos State Police Command has stepped up security measures across the state ahead of Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations. Officers are stationed at prayer grounds, recreation centres, highways, motor parks and other strategic locations to protect lives and property. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, Police Mobile Force personnel and Counter Terrorism Units have been directed to intensify visibility patrols and crowd management. Explosive ordnance disposal teams, CBRN units and traffic officers will also ensure safe movement and free flow of traffic during the festivities. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest station. Travellers and motorists are asked to cooperate with security personnel deployed at checkpoints and along major routes.

I get the concern, but having officers on major routes and centres does send a strong message. Ongoing intel-sharing remains key.

Relying solely on visible patrols might create a false sense of security without addressing root causes of crime during these events.

Community volunteers should coordinate with police at recreation centres and prayer grounds to report suspicious behaviour promptly.
