High Court Adjourns Lawyer’s Trial Over Alleged Senator Banditry Sponsorship

High Court Adjourns Lawyer’s Trial Over Alleged Senator Banditry Sponsorship

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until June 2 the trial of lawyer Ahmed Abdulrahman and four co-defendants. They stand accused of claiming in a TikTok video that Senator Shehu Buba Umar sponsored banditry. The defendants, initially prosecuted by the Inspector-General of Police on an 11-count charge, pleaded not guilty to cyberstalking, defamation and related offences under the Cybercrimes Act. They were remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre before securing bail. In December, the Attorney-General of the Federation took over the case. A prosecution witness also testified that one defendant tried to use the former Foreign Affairs Minister’s name in an alleged fraud scheme.

It's interesting that the trial was paused just after allegations against a senator went public on TikTok.

Lawyers should prepare all evidence and witness lists ahead of the June 2 hearing to avoid future adjournments.
