New ‘Sai Mallam’ Terror Sect Spreads in Argungu, Kebbi Govt Issues Warning

The Kebbi State Government has warned of the emergence of a new terrorist sect called ‘Sai Mallam’ in Argungu Local Government Area. Retired Col. Danladi Ribah, the state’s Security Adviser, raised the alarm during a security meeting with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the North-West zone. He noted that the group was first detected in Zuru before gaining strength in Argungu. According to Ribah, ‘Sai Mallam’ was initially identified in neighboring Sokoto State, where security forces managed to contain it. He assured residents that the government is working closely with security agencies, under Governor Nasir Idris’s support, to curb the threat and prevent its spread. The Security Adviser also highlighted other criminal elements, including Lakurawa fighters entering through Sokoto and Niger, Mamudawa militants via Kwara and Niger, and bandits operating from Zamfara. The District Head of Ambursa called for increased funding and better welfare for police personnel to boost operations.

It's odd that such a group could emerge unnoticed until top security officials raised the alarm.

It's surprising they stayed hidden until top security chiefs spoke up. Makes you wonder about local checks.

Highlighting the sect's name might amplify fear instead of addressing root causes of radicalization locally.

Local leaders could organize joint patrols with police and community vigilantes to share intelligence effectively.
