Domestic Air Ticket Prices Hit N200,000 Amid Soaring Jet A1 Costs
Domestic airlines have raised one-way fares to as high as N211,600. United Nigeria set its minimum fare at N200,000 for all routes. Air Peace and Ibom Air followed with base fares of about N211,600 and N200,300 respectively. Some carriers kept lower rates on busy routes. Arik Air still charges N113,000–N114,000 for Abuja–Lagos flights. Aero Contractors and ValueJet offer fares ranging from about N123,000 to N146,700 and N118,571 to N132,857. Aviation fuel now sells at around N2,650 per litre at many airports. Operators say the surge in Jet A1 prices, rising debts and shrinking cash flow forced them to review ticket prices to stay afloat. An industry source said each airline made its own decision after careful assessment. An aviation analyst urged authorities to fix pipelines to the airport to cut logistics costs and ease future fare hikes.
