Obuh: Agents and Administrators Undermining Nigeria’s U-17 Team

John Obuh, former coach of the Golden Eaglets, says undue interference from agents and football administrators is at the heart of Nigeria’s recent decline at U-17 level. Obuh, who guided Nigeria to a silver medal at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, warned that poor preparation and constant external meddling in player selection have disrupted team cohesion and focus. Speaking in a radio interview, he urged the football federation to enforce transparent processes and protect young talents from off-field politics.

Interference alone might not explain the decline; budget shortfalls and gaps in talent scouting could be equally damaging for the U-17 squad.

They should establish clearer guidelines separating agents' roles from official duties and invest in local training camps to boost preparation standards.
