Lagos Task Force Impounds 278 Okadas in Statewide Enforcement Drive
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit seized 278 commercial motorcycles during a weeklong operation. The exercise targeted riders flouting the ban on Okada movements on highways and restricted corridors under the 2018 Transport Sector Reform Law. Officials said the crackdown aimed to improve public safety, protect lives and property, and curb crimes linked to illegal motorcycle use. Some riders were caught transporting illicit substances, petroleum products and gas, while others ferried children in unsafe conditions on major roads. The operation covered key areas including Ikorodu, Festac First Gate, Mazamaza, Egbeda, Iyana Ipaja and Berger Bus Stop. All impounded motorcycles will face legal forfeiture proceedings. Authorities warn they will continue the enforcement until full compliance is achieved.
