US-Iran Peace Talks in Islamabad End Without Agreement
The United States and Iran concluded 21 hours of face-to-face talks in Islamabad without reaching a deal. Vice President J.D. Vance said Tehran rejected Washington’s terms, especially its demand for an affirmative pledge not to pursue a nuclear weapon. Vance described the U.S. proposal as its “final and best offer” and left open the possibility of future negotiations. These were the first direct talks since the 2015 nuclear agreement was later abandoned. The discussions took place amid a fragile ceasefire and ongoing Middle East tensions. A senior IRGC commander then suggested the meeting may have been a trap to expose Iranian leadership in future hostilities.
