Kwankwaso Threatens to Quit NDC Over Kano Candidate Shake-Up
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has warned he will leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress after the party replaced several candidates submitted by his Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano State. According to a letter from Kano State NDC chairman Hussaini Isah Mairiga, the reshuffle honours a 60-40 power-sharing deal between the original party structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc. Seven federal constituencies were affected, including Kumbotso, Nassarawa, Kano Municipal, Doguwa/Tudun Wada, Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa, Sumaila/Takai and Gwale. State Assembly tickets in Dala, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo and Dawakin Kudu also saw adjustments. Kwankwaso insists that any further changes will breach the agreement. He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political project and predicted a 2027 landslide victory for the ruling party.
