Wike Rules Out Supporting Fubara’s 2027 Governorship Bid

Wike Rules Out Supporting Fubara’s 2027 Governorship Bid

Minister Nyesom Wike has declared he will not back Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term in the Rivers State governorship race. He made the announcement during a pre-convention meeting with APC delegates in Abuja, calling his 2023 support for Fubara a “mistake” he will not repeat. Wike warned politicians who invoke his name to advance their ambitions. He urged party members to guard their resources against opportunists and pledged to block any unwanted candidate, saying he will fight to ensure no repeat of past betrayals. In response, Bomah Iyaye denied reports of a gubernatorial bid or Wike’s endorsement, reaffirming his focus on duties at the NDDC. Meanwhile, Governor Fubara’s camp says he remains a strong contender and will soon clarify his re-election plans despite the rift with his predecessor.

How might Wike's refusal to back Fubara reshape political alliances in Rivers State ahead of 2027?

Do you think other key figures will start distancing themselves from Fubara after Wike's snub?

This could really shake up loyalties, makes sense for fresh alignments to emerge before 2027.

It's telling that Wike called his 2023 support a "mistake" instead of addressing policy differences between him and Fubara.

Maybe Wike's decision is more about preserving his own ambitions than any genuine concern for party unity or state progress.

Stakeholders in Rivers State should focus on clear policy proposals rather than personality clashes if they want to rebuild voter confidence.
