Israel Protests After 40 Citizens Detained at Moscow Airport Over Iran Conflict
At least 40 Israeli passengers arriving in Moscow from Tel Aviv were held at Domodedovo Airport on suspicion of ties to Israel’s conflict with Iran. They spent about five hours in custody without food, water or restroom access before their release. Russian security forces warned the travelers that anyone deemed an enemy of Iran—Russia’s ally—would face the same treatment. Detainees were ordered to unlock their phones or power them off. Israel’s Foreign Ministry, acting on orders from the foreign minister, contacted its counterparts in Moscow and the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv. Following diplomatic intervention, Russian authorities released the Israelis after they signed documents warning against legal violations. An independent Russian outlet reported the full detention details. Russia later approved their entry and acknowledged the incident was handled. Previous travel disputes at Domodedovo in 2019 ended similarly when Israeli citizens were initially denied entry but eventually allowed onward travel.
