Why Did Israel Join the US in Opposing the UN’s Slave Trade Resolution?

At the UN headquarters in New York, 123 countries backed a resolution calling the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity. Only the United States, Israel, and Argentina voted against it. I recall that the US and Israel were also the sole opponents when the UN tried to recognize access to food as a human right. This pattern makes me pause. Maybe it’s because Jews once dominated the slave trade—owning ships, auction houses, and plantations. If that’s true, why should modern Israel bear that historical blame? I’m all for reparations paid by descendants of slave ship owners, plantation managers, and financiers. Still, it’s striking that only the US, Argentina, and Israel rejected this step. What demographic link do they share?

What possible reasons could Israel and the US have had for standing alone against the 123 nations condemning the transatlantic slave trade?

What reasons did the US and Israel give to explain opposing the resolution?

Hard to believe they opposed condemning slavery itself. Maybe they had issues with vague language, not the core principle.

E be surprising say only Israel, the US and Argentina reject calling slave trade the gravest crime against humanity.

I'm not convinced they voted that way to endorse slavery; maybe they had procedural objections or feared unwanted precedents.

Before drawing conclusions, review any official statements or legal comments explaining why those three nations opposed the resolution.
