Zamfara Education Commissioner Resigns as Governor and Assembly Move to APC

Zamfara Education Commissioner Resigns as Governor and Assembly Move to APC

Wadatau Madawaki has stepped down as Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology after Governor Dauda Lawal defected to the All Progressives Congress. He said his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party left him no choice and denied any coercion. The state government accepted his resignation and named Abdulmalik Gajam as the acting commissioner. Madawaki stressed that resigning was an honourable decision in light of the governor’s move. In a sweeping shift, all 24 members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki and other key lawmakers, also joined the APC. They cited the need to back the governor’s development agenda. Governor Lawal, Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni and several executive council members have similarly defected. The APC will hold an official reception for its new members, signalling a major political realignment in Zamfara.

Given the commissioner's claim of no coercion, what do you think motivated his resignation after the governor's defection?

True, his resignation coming right after the governor's switch shows it probably was about political alignment.

I'm curious what else might have influenced his decision to step down so quickly?

It's interesting how party loyalty can shift so quickly when top officials change affiliations, even without obvious pressure.

This one no add up o, seems like loyalty story doesn't fully explain such a sudden resignation.

Perhaps tracking how many officials follow suit could help predict which party gains real influence ahead of future elections.
