Inside Tuvalu’s Three-Classroom University Campus

The University of the South Pacific’s Tuvalu Campus in Funafuti operates from a compact building with only three classrooms. Despite its size, it provides an important route to higher education for students across Tuvalu’s nine atoll islands. The campus is part of the regional University of the South Pacific, which is jointly owned by 12 Pacific Island countries. About 330 students enrol each semester, with learners on remote islands joining classes through online teaching. Tuvalu has a population of about 11,400, and its isolated location can make overseas study difficult and expensive. The small campus helps students begin university programmes closer to home while showing that educational impact is not measured by the number of buildings.
