Kaduna Magistrate Remands Two Men Over Alleged Kidnapping of Children

Kaduna Magistrate Remands Two Men Over Alleged Kidnapping of Children

A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Danladi Usman, 23, and Nasir Ahmed, 26, in a correctional facility over alleged conspiracy and kidnapping. Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel said his court lacked jurisdiction to take their plea. He directed the police to send the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and adjourned the matter until July 26 for mention. Prosecutor Inspector Chidi Leo told the court that on May 24 at about 6:30 p.m., the defendants and an accomplice at large kidnapped two children from their parents’ home in Millennium City, Kaduna, demanding ransom. Neighbours alerted the police and the children were rescued. The offence violates Section 247 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, which carries the death penalty if the accused are found guilty.
