Bayelsa’s 60MW Gas Plant Commissioned by President Tinubu Still Not Operational

The 60-megawatt gas turbine power plant in Bayelsa State, inaugurated by President Tinubu and Governor Duoye Diri, has never been turned on. It was meant to reduce reliance on the national grid, which frequently collapses. During the ceremony, the governor said the president would be the one to switch on the turbines. Yet evenings after the commissioning, much of Yenagoa and surrounding communities remained in darkness. Only one housing estate had arranged power independent of the state government. Residents report most streets went unlit and many households still rely on generators. Calls to the state government for an update on the plant’s status went unanswered.

How long will Bayelsa residents wait for that 60MW gas plant to ever start powering homes as promised?

Has any government source given a clear timeline for when the gas plant will actually supply power?

True talk! We don't need more buzz words, just flick of that switch already.

It's telling that a project inaugurated months ago still can't run any turbines, despite pledges to ease grid collapses.

I'm not convinced delays always mean negligence; sometimes logistics and supply issues can stall even completed installations.

Local committees should track progress publicly and push for clear timelines before celebrating future inaugurations of any power plants.
