Fake Soldier Nabbed in Maiduguri After Robbing Residents — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Troops of the 7 Division Garrison and the Civilian Joint Task Force arrested a man posing as a soldier to rob homes in the Shuwari area of Maiduguri. The suspect, Abdulazeez Mohammed, was taken into custody at about 2:00 p.m. on July 1 after credible intelligence on his activities. Security sources say the suspect dressed in military camouflage to gain residents’ trust before stealing mobile phones and other valuables. He remains in military custody as investigators probe whether he is linked to a larger criminal syndicate. Authorities warn that impersonating armed forces personnel is a criminal offence. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report anyone seen unlawfully wearing military uniforms or acting suspiciously.

How do residents suggest verifying a soldier's identity before allowing them into homes after this incident?

True talk. Always ask for official military ID, call local base to confirm, and don't open gates until verification.

It's alarming that someone could pose as a soldier and operate in Maiduguri without immediate detection.

You're right, it's worrying how easily someone managed to pretend as military in Maiduguri.

Stricter ID checks might help, but I doubt they'll stop every impostor determined to prey on residents.

Install secure door viewers and call local military posts to confirm any soldier's credentials before granting access.
