From Side Hustle to Main Income: How I Scaled My Cocoa Farm from 7 to 300 Trees
I inherited seven cocoa trees and a small plot of farmland when my father passed away five years ago. At the time, my paramilitary salary couldn’t cover living expenses, so I applied for study leave and returned home to focus on agriculture. I cleared the only plot available and raised 900 cocoa seedlings for transplanting. Although only 300 survived, I nurtured them carefully over the years. Today, those 300 trees produce enough cocoa pods to pay for my schooling costs and more. My photos show the farm’s progression—from the early nursery stage to the mature trees laden with pods. This journey proves that with persistence and good planning, a side project can turn into a thriving business.
