Retired Super Eagles Legend Emenike Shocked by Fan Recognition in Newcastle
Super Eagles legend Emmanuel Emenike was left stunned after fans in Newcastle recognised him on the streets years after his retirement. A quick video shows a passerby calling out his former clubs, including Spartak Moscow and Fenerbahce, before gathering friends for a photo. Emenike won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and claimed the tournament’s golden boot, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances for Nigeria. His club career included memorable spells at Spartak Moscow, Fenerbahce and a brief loan at West Ham, and he finished with 92 career goals. Reflecting on the encounter, Emenike admitted he hadn’t expected to be recognised at all. His reputation as an almost unstoppable player on the video game FIFA 13 still lives on, and even teammate Ahmed Musa recently named him in his all-time best Super Eagles eleven.
