Denmark’s Former Queen Margrethe Hospitalised After Heart Attack
Queen Margrethe of Denmark was admitted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on Thursday afternoon after suffering a heart attack. The 86-year-old monarch remains under observation over the weekend as doctors run further tests. Though she stepped down in 2024 after a 52-year reign, Margrethe continues to be known as Queen and still carries out occasional royal duties. Her office said she is tired but in good spirits and that any further updates will be announced by the royal household. Earlier, Margrethe cited health concerns—including extensive back surgery—as a factor in her decision to pass the crown to King Frederik X. Since then, she has experienced other health setbacks, including a fall at Fredensborg Palace and a recent bout of illness that forced her to cancel engagements.
